Reflections of Me: The Hits Just Keep On Coming.

Yes, they do.  Just, not for my Giants, but I have grown used to that over the years.  Still, I am happy with this season's team so far; most of the games have been true, and good, baseball.  Strong pitching, good defense.  Some timely hitting--by our opponents.  One of my biggest complaints about my game in recent years has been the disparity in the calling of balls and strikes.  It may be just my memory playing tricks, but, I recall in the past a lot more consistency there.  Perhaps modern technology used in broadcasting games has ruined that for me, a concession I am willing to make. Last night, we lost a great game to Arizona by a score of 1-0, on a 1 hitter by Arizona's J. Corbin.  He pitched a great game.  So did J. Cueto for the Giants, as he and T. Watson combined to hold Arizona to 3 hits.  There was good, solid defense on both sides, and only one really outstanding defensive play was really needed.  This is a sign of a w...

Reflections of Me: A Long and Winding Winter

Winter.  It just won't go away.  Where I am at, it hasn't been bad; cooler than usual for this time of year, enough rain to drown a whale, but interspersed with some beautiful Spring weather.  Where I grew up, in the midwest, I see the coming weekend will bring yet another snow storm.  Somebody forgot to tell Winter it is approaching mid-April.  It needs to shut up and crawl back into Sarah Palin's heart where it belongs. Last month, a hero, no, a idol of mine passed.  Nokie Edwards, the lead guitarist/bassist of the instrumental surf band The Ventures, passed away. He, along with George Harrison, motivated my interest in guitar, and music, and I drove myself ( and everyone around me, I presume ) crazy with my attempts to play like either or both of them.  I never succeeded, of course, as along the way I was influenced by a few others and ended up developing my own style, which was, I suppose, passable.  I was never happy with it, but some were,...

Reflections of Me: Spring. It Hasn't Sprung Yet

Ah, here it is, April, year 2018.  A time of year I always look forward to, usually with great optimism.  Spring, meaning warmer temperatures, the blooming of flora and the stirring of fauna.  Baseball, the only sport, in my mind, that truly imitates life.  Sunshine, green grass, the smell of rich, verdant soil, and Nature displayed in Her most beautiful form.  All will be right with the universe now. Except--enter 2018.  Winter refuses to release her icy hold.  She allows glimpses of Spring, then covers them in snow and deadly icy temperatures.  The gloom and pall of deep depression, Winter is, and she seems to want to extend her seasonal chill.  Usually, we humans have periods during Winter's reign where we conduct festivals, meant to cheer each other up, and those are wonderful and help us endure the deathly cold, gray days.  Keeping alive the hope for Spring.  Usually. Enter this new era.  One in which, not satisfied wi...
