Reflections of Me : Repercussions

We have a lot of words beginning with 're', don't we?  And, a lot of words we think should begin with 're' and don't.  Confusing, isn't it?

I hope you weren't expecting me to try to explain it.  This stuff is beyond me.  I use 'echo' when in doubt.  'Course, even that one is a tad odd.  You get a echo once ; if you do it again, is that a re-echo?

But, since a echo is a repeating sound, it therefore repeats.  But, when did it peat?

Rehearse is a fun one.  We all have a basic understanding when we hear the word 'hearse', right?  Letting myself think about it ( always a bit dangerous ) since I once did a lot of 'rehearsing', should I have been a bit frightened by describing it as such?  It rather implies that, well, we killed it once and it got hauled off in a hearse, let's murder it again and call it a 'rehearse'.  So, the more we rehearse, the deader it gets?

As a guitar player, my favorite amplifier of all I used was a Fender Twin Reverb.  I used that reverb a lot, and never questioned it.   Hey, I was young, all right?  I didn't have time to think, I was busy!  But today, I have to wonder : I know what a verb is : a word, denoting action.  So, is reverb a repeating of the same action?  Why, sure!  Only--isn't it also a echo?  All right, sure, it's really a shortened form of reverberation, which is just another word for echo, but thanks for nothing.  That's no fun!

Recline is another fun one.  We know it means leaning back.  We also have incline, which has multiple meanings but usually involves a slanting position.  So, if you lean back against a incline, are you reclining?  Certainly I have never heard anything referred to as a 'cline'  So, it's 'in' or 're'.

Or, Ty...which was a baseball player.  I know, I know, what's that got to do with why the horse crossed the road?

What's that?  Whaddaya mean, it was a chicken, not a horse?  First, were you there?  Me either.  Second, why not a horse?  Or, even a tiger?  After all, who's gonna argue with it?   Besides, the horse crossed the road to get away from the chicken.  Tired of all the clucking.  Plus, he knew there was a tiger in the area.

Conversations I've had with myself recently:

Self : So, what did ya think about them Democrat Debates, eh?
Me  :  Oh, Hell, who woke you up?
Self : You did.  You watched, right?
Me   :  Ha!  Tricked ya.  Only watched SOME of each!
Self : I know, I was there, remember?  Two nights, 20 candidates.  That is a bit much.
Me   :  Yes, creating rules which made it nearly impossible for each to get equal time on issues.
Self : So?  Being President doesn't have some rules too?
Me   : After Trump, not sure,  Between he and the Senate, not much left of the Constitution.
Self : Yeah, but, that could lead to repercussions.
Me   :  Hmmmm.  Thumping Trump and McConnell could create some nice percussions!

     And, we were off.

Indeed, the days following the debates, there have been repercussions.  Some interesting, some hardly worth noting.  I felt most impressed by Warren, Castro, Booker, Gabbard, Buttigieg, and Harris.  Biden remains strong in my mind, and Sanders--I am not alone in loving that man.  He has almost single-handedly given the Democratic Party a solid platform to work from.  Harris, though, garnered much of the attention.  Mostly, I felt, for the wrong reasons, but, obviously she struck a chord in the Trump cabal.

Today on Twitter, Junior tweeted trying to cast doubt on her citizenship.  Later he removed it.  Junior is not the brightest bulb in the pack, and somebody likely told him how blatantly stupid it was.  I doubt it was Daddy, who is often impressed by Junior's ability to count on his fingers, despite still trying to figure out how to count his thumbs.  Daddy also tweeted, implying Harris was 'given too much credit' for her role in the debate.  Which shows that, obviously, he's been informed he does not want to take her on on a debate stage.  He would actually have to have intelligent arguments, which of course he is not capable of presenting.

Also, the propaganda machine has begun a campaign that she is 'not black enough' to be a black person.  Oh.  So, by that logic, Ivanka is not orange enough to be a Trump?  Careful where you create percussions ; there may be repercussions.  Is there a echo in here?  Or is someone repeating themselves?  Get any peat on ya?  I hear Lindsey Graham has peat in his pants!

Self : Come on, now ; let's not be childish!
Me   : Why not?  I enjoy being childish.  What's the point of being a adult if you can't be childish once in a while?
Self : Now cut that out!  Everyone knows you can't accomplish anything by having fun!
Me   :  Yeah?  Tell that to that horse!

God only knows.  What does that even mean?  You've heard the expression.  I wonder, should it be Only God Knows?  One implies that, if there actually were a God entity, even he doesn't know.  Which rather demeans the theory of a All Powerful being.  The second way, well, that simply infers there is a All Powerful being who knows something and he ain't talking.  Making him a bit of a snot.  He's out there in the ether, waggling his fingers in his ears, chanting 'Neener Neeener!  I know something YOU don't, so, Ha Ha! '.

Self : Are you sure about that?
Me   : God Only Knows!!  Now shut up and go back to sleep.  Ya killing my buzz.

A slight diversion here : a word about religion, and me.  Now, anyone who knows me knows I am a atheist.  However, I am a pragmatic atheist, if you will.  I see we humans as each needing something in our lives to lean on, something to believe in, something to anchor us.  I have no problem with anyone's belief in anything, providing it does no harm, and one does not become fanatical about it.  I do believe the Bible should be viewed as any other written work in the field of fiction ( historical fiction, if you will, but fiction nonetheless ).  Certainly, there are some useful tenets listed for people to follow if they wish to be decent people, but there have been so many versions that the original writings have lost their meanings, and impact.  One could read Stephen King's 'The Stand' and glean the same tenets for behavior.  Good people are just that, good people.  If they are so because they feel they are Christian, then, I say, more power to them.  Odds are, they'd have been decent people without being Christian, but, if that helps them face each day and persevere, then, far be it from me to denigrate them for it.  If, on the other hand, they use it to justify their own personal prejudices, hatreds, and lust of power and control, they deserve nothing but scorn.

There will, in other words, be repercussions.

Even as a atheist, I am not going to be a fanatic about it.  I believe in what I can sense, so, I suppose in a way, I am a naturalist.  Not a tofu-munching tree-hugging type, but I do believe in Nature, and it's awesome power.  I believe in what I can see, hear, feel, and sense.  So, I believe in science, in facts.  I also believe that those facts can change as new discoveries are made, and I am comfortable with that.  I am even of the thought that both Science and Religion can, and should, co-exist.  However, I think for that to work, one needs to place the Biblical text where it belongs : on a shelf with other historical fiction.  Intelligent design, or, The Big Bang?  Well, why not both?

That concept can be mind-boggling, if one's mind is capable of boggling.  Sadly, far too many people either haven't the ability, nor the desire, to be boggled.  ( Yeah, I like that word too--so sue me. ).  They need a set, defined, clear set of rules to follow, unable to deviate from that path.  Ok, fine, if that floats your boat.  But, you also must accept that others may not feel, nor even need to feel, the same way.  So, use that in your everyday personal life, but don't let it interfere with your interactions with others.  You ask for naught but misery when you do that.  Let your mind boggle.  Have no reservations, and do good.

Ahhh!  Reservations!  Reserve.  Another fun one.  Take the root -- serve.  This means to give, to offer.  Reserve, however, means to hold back, keep.  Shouldn't it mean serving over again?  Serve the potatoes.  Reserve the potatoes.  Same root word, but one means to hand out the potatoes, and one means to hold them back.  Is it any wonder I am always so confused?

Politics are, really, just word games.  The good practitioners can take a set of words, which form a idea, and make of them anything they please which supports their own beliefs.  This, of course, confuses the non-politician, who should always be aware that is precisely the purpose.  This is where education comes in.  I am not talking about college, or even necessarily high school level.  Yes, it is imperative that one learn to read, but, when teaching reading, it is necessary to also teach how to comprehend what one reads.  Or hears.  Life is, after all, nothing but shit being thrown at one daily ; one should be able, at some point, to be able to shovel through it and find the stinky little gems.

Speaking of which, why isn't there a 'reshit'?  We always hear, same shit, different day.  Well, if it's the same shit, why isn't it called a reshit?  I ask ya!  We have reiterate, which is repeating something already said.  If it was shit, then, it should be reshit!  And I'm sticking to it!

Wait : That was perhaps a poor way of putting that.  Pardon me while I hose down.

Today's information glut seems to pound us with terrible news that only seems to get worse with each passing hour.  There are, however, many good and fun things in life.  It's merely a matter of perspective.  It seems so easy to be discouraged, but, there is always fun, somewhere.  When desperate, make your own.

It's what I try to do.  Now, if Donald Trump were to disappear 30 minutes ago, it would be 100 times easier.  Hopefully, I had something in this brain blurb to bring a smile to someone.  I hope so.  As always, just my views, my opinions.  In the end, the mind you change may be your own.  Mine does it sometimes without asking.
